Fic for Axis Powers Hetalia

Blood, Like Pasta, Is Thicker Than Water, by counterheist
Rating: PG -> PG-17
Summary: From the kink meme. N. Italy saves his money as gold bars; America, Hungary, Iceland, Estonia and France decide to steal it all. After they do, one of them betrays the group and in the resulting chaos, Mafioso big brother S. Italy steps in to steal back what belongs to his stupid little brother.
Comments: A little heartwarming, very humourous, plotty and an outstanding heist work. Has lots of plot twists and turns, lots of gorgeously written characterization and detail. Very, very long. Well worth it.

Cold Wars, by peroxidepest17
Rating: PG-13
Summary: America and Russia fight and make up.
Comments: What with all the angstball fest of cold war era fics in fandom, it's amazing to find something like this- hilariously in canon style, with cuteness, hilarity and a spin on history that you've honestly never considered. You will never think of the cold war in the same way again.

Flashlight and New Batteries, by LolliDictator
Rating: T
Summary: AU. "If I throw a tomato at you, vampire bastard, will you still sparkle under the sauce?" Spamano, requestfic from Kale Henderson :3 and Sequel to Flashlight. "W-WELL, I-I NEVER LIKED YOU, EITHER. WHAT NOW, YOU STUPID SPARKLY VAMPIRE?" Spamano
Comments: The most parody to Twilight, ever. Makes fun of a lot of Twilight-ish tropes, and also contains hilarious tongue in cheek references to Hetalia and Hetalia fandom tropes without parody-ing it (mostly because Hetalia is so outrageous already and Twilight-ers attempt to be serious). Outrageous innuendo and very unfinished, which is a pity because it is so delightfully funny.

Fun with Former Vikings, by Reverberating Winds
Rating: K+
Summary: Brothers that are too awkward to even stand next to each other, husband and 'wife', and that one guy that drinks a lot. The Nordics couldn't be any more different. And neither could the situations they get themselves into.
Comments: A well written gen fic written from the POV of Iceland, who makes an entertaining, awkward and somewhat unreliable narrator. It's cute, serious, gorgeously historical and political, with excellent character interaction. It plots out the little and big events so well, and also gives interesting introspective points into each character.

Grey Skies Over London and Every Generation, by Gemini Star01
Rating: K+ and T
Summary: GSOL- Alternate History AU. The American Rebellion has been crushed and the wayward son returned to his family, but Alfred just isn't acting like himself. Arthur's in denial and Matthew just wants to go home and nothing is the way it ought to be... EG- Sequel to Grey Skies Over London. They're home now, but things are not as they should be: Arthur is still delusional, Alfred is still a prisoner, and Matthew is at the end of his rope. Desperate people resort do desperate meassures...
Comments: Honestly one of, if not the most heart wrenching fanwork ever. Does use (rather liberally) alternate characterization (everyone is still reasonably in character)), but this is alternate history. It is written so gently and painfully almost, and tugs at your heart strings so. So much detail, so much emotion, so very well written.

It's all nice and cute to work at the UN...not, by StarsOfYaoi
Rating: T
Summary: *Various pairings, CRACK* One poor human working for the UN is asked to find a certain Finnish diplomat. On his search, he finds out more than he'd ever wanted to know about many of those 'strange foreign diplomats'.
Comments: Cracky, funny and remarkably in-verse Hetalia, character and plot wise. Utter humour and utter insanity- it really is the nations at their craziest and most cliched form.
this work was recced by v.

Margins, by anon
Rating: not past T (not given)
Summary: Prompt: An AU where Nation-tans are even more bound to their countries. That is, they can't physically leave their homelands. They are alone, isolated, but still drawn to each other even though Nation can only meet Nation at the very edges of their borders. Nations exist that they know about, but have never met because they don't share borders. They pass word around the world by mouth-to-mouth, trying to have some form of connection, some bond with others like themselves. This isolation is also the cause of wars and imperialism. The Nation-tans are so desperate for contact with each other, to be able to talk to someone who understands, that they're constantly trying to invade each other. After all, 'No Man's Land' on a battlefield technically doesn't belong to either warring country...
Comments: A true ensemble fic, involving most of the world at some stage. It's so emotional and deep- all the nations are incredibly characterized, and it's so raw and beautiful. It's definitely a story about the characters, where the story is for their sake alone. Gorgeous background detail and you really do appreciate the extra effort the author has taken with the historical fact and detail- it really feels you are moving throughout history with the characters, feeling what they feel when you feel it.

Only Light And Momentary, by tatterdemalion
Rating: M
Summary: Lars, for his part, has a look on his face like he has swallowed something unpleasant and it is attempting to crawl back up his throat... A chronicle of Canada's relationship with the Netherlands, from 1611 to present day.
Comments: Though not the author's most famous fic, it's my favourite out of all the ones she's written. To me, this is absolutely flawless and one of my most loved Hetalia fics. It has absolutely gorgeous background detail- both cultural, social and political history, including indigenous, which is incorporated so very well and adds to the story. I love the characterization- when this was written, Netherlands wasn't even a character yet, yet she fleshes him out as well as any of the then canon characters. It is a story where the plot is history, but history as you have never thought of it. The story is profound, hilarious at times, and utterly fantastic.

On the Bound, by tatterdemalion
Rating: M
Summary: AU. It's not often one gets a call from their brother, asking for help with a seventy million dollar heist. At least, not where Matthew Williams comes from. Especially not a heist where you have to seduce a very rich Frenchman. Eventual Matthew/Francis.
Comments: It's very fun and lighthearted, and fast paced and fun to read from start to finish. Manages to resolve some pretty heavy character issues, and it a fairly well written heist story with the (un)usual plot twists and turns. Well written, suspenseful and absolutely hilarious.

The Nation Chronicles, by eloquentelegance
Rating: K+
Summary: When the leaders of the nations deemed the current events far too important to be left alone and forgotten. They began to hire scribes. Their sole purpose was to follow their respective nations, recording the occuring events exactly as they occured.
Comments: Or, WHAT IF HETALIA WAS REAL? This is that story. It is delightful. Though de-anoned by the author, there is something delightful about reading on the prompt page. Light hearted and witty, hilarious and slightly profound. Also an appreciation of fandom, which is truly really great in Hetalia. The little details are what make this story. Extra chappy uploaded on ff.net.

Seven Little Killers, by Lucky-Angel135
Rating: M
Summary: This story will not have a happy ending, love. I just can't see it on the horizon, and anything that I can't see isn't there. Yellow's Arc.
Comments: Though that's the current summary, one previous summary has been 'Nations are being murdered, and a group of mysterious masked killers is behind it. Their goal seems to be to plunge the world into chaos, but is it really? Who are these masked killers, and why are they really killing off nations?', which is somewhat better at explaining the plot. It really starts and plunges you into the deep end, and is one of those stories which makes you want to laugh and cry and feel the full spectrum of emotions within the same chapter. It has one of the most convuluted, mind bending and suspenseful plots ever and tops many a published murder mystery with the level of edge-of-your-seat-loud-heart-beating. It establishes a real emotional connection with the characters, and you are so connected to them whe you read it. Beautifully written, with an astonishing level of detail, plot consistency and ability to characterize, considering it is two authors writing it. It is a must read.

Crossover Fic for Axis Powers Hetalia

AWOL, by Lisse, a crossover with NCIS
Rating: K+
Summary: When a Marine goes missing, his twin brother comes to NCIS looking for help. Then things get weird.
Comments: A flawless crossover between two worlds which shouldn't mix as well as they do, but they do. Excellent characterization of all characters, and has lots of gorgeous detail which add a delicious sense of irony and humour to the story. Very charming and one of the best written outsider point of view stories.
this work was recced by v.

Blurring House Lines and Nil Desperandum, by Lily Winterwood, a crossover with Harry Potter
Rating: M
Summary: Accepted into Hogwarts and Sorted into Slytherin House, Arthur Kirkland must prove to the rest of the school that not all Slytherins are evil while coming to grips with the fact that he is much more than an ordinary wizard. and Hogwarts is all but a dream now to the Nations, especially for Arthur Kirkland as he faces Voldemort's totalitarian regime. Sequel to Blurring House Lines; follows plotline of Deathly Hallows.
Comments: This fic is very long and isn't the best crossover ever written- it does ask you to suspend you disbelief a few times and in many ways, the sequel is better than the original. But it is worth the read- it explores many facets of both Hetalia and Potter canon and fanon, and is very well written and really does manage to mash two very different universes together. It is a must for fans of both series.

Fic for Star Trek 2009

Alien, by mattmetzger
Rating: K+
Summary: Jim Kirk was not always as open-minded about aliens as he came to be. And like any opinion, it changed slowly. An exploration of xenophobia in the future.
Comments: Beautifully crafted meta within a very frank, sensitive and realistic discussion into something that's honestly very relevant to modern society as well (and how humans probably won't change very much in the next 200+ years in some ways). Gorgeously written, with wonderful contrast between the fact and experiences represented in the story. I loved the historical anecdotes in the story- they are so very memerable and relevant- if you replaced some of the words, they could be used so well in our context and our own experiences with xenophobia.

Enterprise High, by cable69
Rating: M
Summary: A ST: XI high school AU, being multiple chapters and of great length, depth, characterization, and other positive qualities. K/S, eventually.
Comments: A rare, well written high school AU. I can't praise it enough. It's written so very well and manages to walk that balance between the genres that make up a high school AU very well- the drama, the angst, romance, intrigue and so many more. The characterization is very even and it is a true ensemble fic- one which handles its romance and characters equally well. The relationships alone are something to be commended- she manages to mix and match the 'ships without demonizing any of the characters, and it is also one of those rare fics which is able to write het and slash equally well at the same time. It also explores issues that most high school AUs would not be able to does it without sounding preachy- it's naturally integrated in the story and it really does make you think- it's more than just plot.

Graduate Vulcan for Fun and Profit, by Suppi-chan
Rating: T
Summary: It really does take a village to raise a Jim.
Comments: Suppi-chan has a style of writing which contains a very understated sense of humour which is somewhat witty, a little dry, charming, and sometimes just plain conventional comedy. It's intelligent humour. She also has a skill for writing very subtle plot and adding little bits of meta into her writing which are flawlessly interwined with her style of writing and storyline. It is excellently characterized, has well written OCs and is dramatic without losing her style of comedic flair.

Observations, by jAnon
Rating: R
Summary: First Officer Spock comments on life aboard the Enterprise and his service under Captain James T. Kirk.
Comments: Possibly one of the most understated summaries for one of the best fics I have ever read. THIS is the 250+, 400k+ fic I read in one sitting. It mixes Original Series and Nu!Trek canon and it is possibly one of the most flawlessly remixed stories I have ever read (and in Nu!Trek, that's practically a trope already). It is a continuation story of the highest quality. The writing is all 'show, don't tell' and is practically an art amongst itself- incredibly captivating. The relationships in the story are incredibly naturally progressing, and has engaging side plots for supporting characters. There is an incredible amount of background detail- physics, mathematics, linguistics, logic, philosophy, ethics- I could go on and on. It is an incredibly mentally and emotionally challenging thing to read- it challenges so many of your perceptions and is so emotionally powerful- it is literally a rollercoaster of emotions. It is a very engaging read and really does immerse you into another world. It is beautiful and profound and utterly transcending. I think though the summary is so incredibly understated, but does describe the story best, for whatever else may it be, it is the story of the USS Enterprise.

To Hear a Hand, by Tsurai no Shi
Rating: T
Summary: James T. Kirk's birth is a medical impossibility. A horrible miracle. After all, genetic deafness was cured two centuries ago... Protective-friend!Bones. Based on a poem by Willard J. Madsen.
Comments: This is a wonderful story. It deals with difference and disability in a profound manner and is written in an intelligent, well constructed manner which is both horribly frank and wispy at the same time. It is an incredibly different idea and it handled very well by the author. Unfinished, and leaves you hanging, but the place where it finishes is also a place which implies both beginnings and endings.

Crossover fic for White Collar

Skybird, by cradle_song, a crossover with Inception
Rating: PG-13
Summary: From this lovely prompt: Arthur and Eames adopt a kid and raise that kid into Neal Caffrey. There are three arcs in the Skybird universe (the title of which is quite unimaginatively and very shamelessly taken from this song). Spoilers for Inception, and written with up to 2.9 of White Collar having aired. Total wordcount around 34k.
Comments: Even if you haven’t watched White Collar (you definitely need Inception though), you don’t need to. This is pretty much a classic, clever crossover- a flawless infusion of two fandoms and so effortlessly done. A lot of thought into characterization and backstory. Very emotive and good, too. Very good characterization on the Inception part, and clearly a lot of thought has gone into making this crossover work.

A Piece of the Plate (Got Stuck In My Heart), by jibrailis
Rating: Teen and up
Summary: Iron Chef AU. In which there are cooking competitions, ruminations on the length of Eames' penis, professional jealousy, and second chances.
Comments: Seriously, IRON CHEF AU!!! On the surface it's an Iron Chef AU, but looking deeper, it's also about the nature of life, (missed) oppurtunities and love. And that what's makes it such a good read, because it has all these beautiful nuances. It is an amazing read. And very exploratory, and very serious in nature, despite the light tone it's written in. Plus some of the most hilarious one liners ever.

A Puppy With A Closet Full of Dunhill, by amazingly_me
Rating: PG-13
Summary: It turned out that Glee Club wasn’t so much a club as it was three people who were surgically attached to their iPods and wanted Barbra Streisand’s diva notes to make sweet, sweet love to their ears. Which was fine, because that was pretty much exactly who Ariadne was, too. Glee!AU.
Comments: Inception is strange, because the high school AUs are actually good. It's clever and funny and vaguely reminiscent of Glee, but more mature and refined in a sense. Beautifully written.

Crime and Medicine, by eleveninches
Rating: Explicit
Summary: When a simple extraction on Cobb goes haywire, Arthur loses a friend, gains an enemy, falls in love, and finds out exactly who he is -- give or take a new alias or two. In which Fischer is incepted, Cobb's secrets are property of the U.S. government, and Eames teaches Arthur that PVPing is an excellent life skill to have when you're accidentally becoming a bad ass dreamsharing motherfucker.
Comments: This is a most wonderful AR which is founded firmly in canon yet holds so many unexpected many twists, turns and expansion on canon and lots of meta written in as details. It's both profound, yet firmly an action/adventure sort of story with a clear heist element. It's a very powerful reading experience. Well written, with some absolutely charming and hilarious RL jokes.

Deja Fucking Déjà Vu, by weatherfront
Rating: unstated, around M
Summary: Nash is this, Nash is that, but it's far more likely that Nash is just something in between.
Comments: Superb. Wonderful writing, as weatherfront always is. And there’s just something about this story from this POV, where you learn about a story within a story, and that well crafted backstory. Nash is rarely written about in fandom as a main POV character, but this Nash feels real and not just a random bit character. This is the story which shows that a die can have more than six faces. Gorgeous meta about the world they live in. It feels so very, very real and could just slot into canon.

Dream Demolition, by nyxmachina
Rating: unstated, around PG
Summary: Theories about dreamscape demolition (not actual summary)
Comments: This is absolutely gorgeous. Beautifully crafted meta presented as beautifullly crafted emotion and thought and dreams. Very subtle, yet very blatant.

I bet Nureyev never had to deal with this shit, by cobweb_diamond
Rating: Teen and up
Summary: Modern-day AU. Arthur is a ballet dancer recovering from a serious injury, and is lucky enough to land the role of Oberon in Dom Cobb's reimagining of A Midsummer Night's Dream.
Comments: Another truly awesome AU. Seriously, Inception seriously has some really good AU verses. And this one is brimming with characterization and sheer emotion (and of course, a truly good author who knew how to handle the plot and subjtle nuances behind the premise.) and you can’t help but fall in love with the characters and their relationships with each other. Again, brilliant, brilliant detailing of ballet (to my limited knowledge, at least!).

i died so i could haunt you and counting stars on the ceiling, by evocates
Rating: PG-13
Summary: (1st) Robert falls in love with a man in a half-forgotten dream.” In which Robert tries to win Saito, fails spectacularly, and gets his man anyway. For this prompt on the kink meme. (2nd) In which Saito falls in love with Robert’s brattiness, waits for forty years, and comes back and wins him with contracts and coffee. And George Bernard Shaw quotes. The last part is important. Done for this prompt on inception_kink: Saito pursuing Robert. It is not by force but by frequency that the water hollows the stone.
Comments: These stories are not part of the same verse, but it made sense to link them together because in a sense, they are utter contrasts yet exactly the same. It’s a fairly unusual pair in Inception, but the way evocates writes them really makes you want to thin. Of what he feels in 'i died' and why, and what Saito did in 'counting stars' and the extent of their actions as related to their emotions. Because truthfully, the premises of both stories are somewhat disturbing when you look deeply into it, but she handles it so very well. They are both stories about wooing, albeight unconventional. Well worth a read.

In Our Line of Work by enjambament
Rating: PG-13/R
Summary: Arthur wakes up and realizes the last ten years of his life have been a dream. He is nineteen, and he can barely remember where he is. What he can remember is the ghost of Eames’ hands pressed down on his chest trying frantically to stop the blood flooding up around his fingers as Arthur died (as he woke up).
Comments: OH WOW. Absolutely powerful and amazing and the best AR fic I have ever read. It explains the alternate reality so very well and links such powerful emotions and beautiful characterization to a punching plot. I can't explain the storyline, but it is literally like a dream within reality. With A++ backstory. The premise is powerful and ties into a powerful storyline. And so incredibly well nuanced.

Plate Tectonics, by indysaur
Rating: PG
Summary: Arthur is forced to move in with Eames. The world moves.
Comments: This story is one of those very beautiful ones about the evolution of a relationship. And about how things in your life shift your whole world view and whole life, like plate tectonics. It's such a graceful and flawless transition that you didn't quite realize things had changed but yes they had. It's very profound and lovely.

Presque Vu, by rageprufrock
Rating: Mature
Summary: Or, "on the tip of the tongue." Arthur meets Mal first. He inherits Dom, after. Everything else is on him.
Comments: It might be strange to call a 70k fic a one shot, but this is what it is. There really is no other way to read it. Absolutely gorgeous, and literally one of the most beautiful things I have ever read. There is such beautifully rich characterization and a such in canon plot, it's amazing. And the IMAGERY. THE EMOTION. It's a fic where you will laugh and cry and smile and feel anguished, all in one go. You will hate and love and everything in between. It is absolutely powerful.

Steinway!Verse, by toomuchplor
Rating: Explicit
Summary: The alternate universe where Arthur's a pianist and Eames is a lyric baritone and their love is so lieder, omg. Blame Lately for this whole thing. *waves hand over assorted fics*
Comments: There are over ten fics in this verse, but I know a lot of the verse is not very plotful, so to speak. The ones over 10k are beautifully written, full of explosive and emotive plot. It is a rich and absolutely beautiful AU, and one of the most real feeling I have ever read. And musicians! They author clearly knows what she is talking about, and the use of great background details has always appealed to me.

The Breeze You Carry With You, by anon
Rating: PG
Summary: Unaware projections in love (not official summary)
Comments: GORGEOUS. IT IS THE POWER OF THE DRABBLE. Seriously, this is everything a drabble should aspire to be. It’s very short, but manages to capture so much in so little. And so much emotion and expression in the way it is written. It is highly elegant writing.

The Wrath of The Whatever From High Atop The Thing, by amazingly_me
Rating: PG-13
Summary: “Pictures of Dom tonight, Eames,” Yusuf replies from the doorway, “or I swear to you, I will point out to Arthur that he has a stalker with no shame and a thousand dollar camera.” From celebutaunt's prompt at the kink meme, "Cobb is the presidential candidate, Ariadne is his running mate, Yusuf is campaign manager, Saito is the sponsor, and Eames is the campaign photographer who spends way too much time taking picture of Cobb's speechwriter, Arthur."
Comments: A brilliant, brilliant political AU. Behind the romance are wonderful glimpses of the political landscape and the human condition, the way of the sheeple as well as the power of the media. Snappy dialogue, lovely writing.

We Used to Wait, by chibi_lurrel
Rating: R/NC-17
Summary: The first time Dominick Cobb meets Arthur, he is 22 and the boy is 14. The last time Eames meets him, he is 34 and Arthur is 29.
Comments: THIS IS EPIC, WONDERFUL SCI-FI. It’s from inception_bang, which was SO GOOD (and ate up my time), and also by chibi_lurrel, who hasn’t written something I haven’t liked. It’s like an AU and AR at the same time, but mostly an AR. It has gorgeous imagery and it fits perfectly into canon, like a puzzle piece. Characterization is A+ and the plot is one beyond imagination. Background details beyond imagination. Also has wonderful art, because it’s a bigbang fic, and they always have art. This is the first fic I ever read from inceptiondaily (you didn’t need to know that).
this work was recced by v.

Weltschmertz, by cobweb_diamond
Rating: Mature
Summary: How to come to terms with the unsatisfactory nature of physical reality.Warnings:  This fic is intended to be as canon-compliant as humanly possible, but portrays Arthur as female-to-male (post-transition). I guess this may not be a concept that works for everyone. (warnings copied off author on LJ. Highlight to read, because it spoils the story. And honestly, I think it’s nicer to read the story without the warnings because there’s realizations and stuff you get from the story- a newer perspective. It’s not past M rated, but if you like to know the general idea of a story, read the warning.)
Comments: Sometimes there are stories written about very unconventional parts of the human condition that make it the absolute centre of the story. This is not one of them. It explores one aspect of a person (in this case, Arthur) and how it’s a big aspect of his life, but not what his life is built around, which is what many stories do (and it’s such a shame that they do because you don’t have to write about a topic to write about it. If that makes sense). And it’s done amazingly well- very sensitively and maturely.

Wherever You Will Be (That's Where I'll Call Home) [The DomesticVerse], by gyzym
Rating: From Teen to Explicit
Summary: No author summary of the main verse, but it’s basically a post-Inception Arthur and Eames story.
Comments: Eight fics, about 75K in total. Absolutely, absolutely gorgeous. Still incomplete verse, but it’s enough to keep you satisfied forever, seriously. It's one of those rare, well written stories which chronicle various little parts (and some big parts) of a relationship which you might not consider important, but actually are. It's about ordinary life, and how it can be so extraordinary in all the ways you don't consider. I actually read the sixth one first, and it was one of the first fics I ever read in Inception fandom. I think the order you read them in isn't particularly important, but the middle ones are much more impactful.

Crossover fic for Twilight

The Different Faces of Su Li by romantiscue, a crossover with Harry Potter
Rating: T
Summary: Equipped with a highly realistic magical strap-on, a crossdressing Su Li flees to La Push after the war to escape her father. Perfectly straight Embry Call never expected to imprint on another guy. Pseudo-slash. Sexuality confusion.
Comments:This might be one of the fics I dislike after reading the rest of the story. But the first chapter alone is well fleshed out and contains a bright spark of originality rarely seen in fanfiction. Even if I decide I dislike this story afterwards, this is one of the stories I see so much potential in. I like this fic because it explores a background character very well and handles her thoughts and emotions about her situation thus far in a believable way. It's a very different concept and I think that it is a pity in some ways that this absolute gem of an idea won't be very much exposed to the fandom world because it doesn't focus on the main character, or one of the more favoured side characters or even one of the popular background characters. This fic shows what fanfiction is- alternate viewpoints and exploration on themes that the original authors don't.

Fic for Lord of the Rings

Daughter of Time by wednesday-mc
Rating: T
Summary: Very AU & Alt Reality. Legolas never left Middle-Earth, but stayed behind to look after Aragorn's children-most specifically the first-born daughter of each generation. This generation's daughter was never prepared to believe in Elves, much less Legolas.
Comments: I posted the link to the chapters on the main index, where all the chapters are, since fanfiction.net only has the first 45 chapters. I can safely say this is the only main character/OC pairing fic that I have ever enjoyed. And after reading this wonderful masterpiece, all others are ruined for me. Not telling any of the plot, because it is sort of ruined because this story is the type you have to read to like yourself. But a wonderful, realistic sort of work which is romantic without romance being the focus of the story.

Fic for Avatar the Last Airbender

Damascus, by drakensis

Rating: K
Summary: When the fate of the world rests upon the shoulders of one person, best to hope that it isn't a blind, chi-crippled child...
Comments: An excellent spin on alternate reality. Basically, this is a story where Toph is the Avatar It's written really plausibly and elegantly. The AU isn't completely implausible, and the author isn't afraid killing off characters, or making that they never exist. The alternate universe mixes it's differences and canon pretty well and characterizations are spot on for characters like Toph and Mai, who have nuances not written to the fullest by writers.

Scarlett and Black, by Vathara
Rating: K
Summary: Zuko lost much more than an Agni Kai... AU tag to episode 2.
Comments: Anything by Vathara is worth reading. This is so very very good (and needs an extended sequel so much!), and gives us a more realistic, uncartoonified version of what could have happened to Zuko because his father burnt his face.

Theft Absolute, Embers, by Vathara
Rating: K+ and T
Summary: Theft Absolute: Because anybody who could break into the North Pole has to have thought theft through better than that... AU bit of "The Cave of Two Lovers".
Embers: Dragon's fire is not so easily extinguished; when Zuko rediscovers a lost firebending technique, shifting flames can shift the world... Follows "Theft Absolute".
Comments: First, let's go off by stating this is NOT everybody's cup of tea. There are characterizations that may/will irk you (but the story is essential told through several unreliable narrators with their own persepectives) Second, it's long very long, and also incredibly dark. It's one of those very 'thinky' sort of stories. It's also very well researched and has such incredible background details. It is also written quite well. This story, in my opinion, is better than canon. It fleshes out a lot of things and deals with issues that weren't explored on the original show. I can also say that this is quite an 'eye opening' story to read, and honestly does change the way you view things and look at things. It's deep. It's absolutely lovely. And I can say confidently that this is a fic I will read again.

Fic for Harry Potter

Happily Ever After, by Jeconais
Rating: T+
Summary: If you sit very quietly, I’ll tell you the real story of a Prince and his Princess, and how they changed the world.
Comments: An enjoyable romance. It's a comfortable read, and not as good as the author's other two Harry/Gabrielle stories, but nonetheless, this was one of the first things I read after exploring non canon pairings. The pair's a bit odd (and I love odd!pair fics), and Gabrielle is a great deal younger than Harry, but it is an extremely well written story by a brilliant writer. I find it an absolutely adorable story and it's one of the ones that you know is going to end well. It has many fairytale themes and fairytali-ness and quite a fair bit of the super! genre fitting in as well. But despite its flaws, it really is a cute thing to read. It's not particularly funny, and at times, it is drenched in fluff. And sometimes, when things are bad (i.e. after maths assessment tasks) a cute thing like this cheers you right up.

Hedwig and the Goblet of Fire, by Meteoricshipyards
Rating: T
Summary: Harry uses Hedwig to test the restrictions on the Goblet of Fire. Obviously, they're not good enough to stop the smartest owl in Britain!
Comment: Pure, utter, crack!

*Oh God Not Again!, by Sarah1281
Rating: K+
Summary: So maybe everything didn't work out perfectly for Harry. Still, most of his friends survived, he'd gotten married, and was about to become a father. If only he'd have stayed away from the Veil, he wouldn't have had to go back and do everything AGAIN.
Comment: A hiliariously funny parody. Of all the do-over time travel fics which exist in the Harry Potter world, this is pretty much my favourite for being non angsty and poking fun at various tropes which are either disturbing or ludicrous in both general fic and particularly do-over fic. It's also brilliantly written and quite witty in the way it addresses things.

Crossover fic for Harry Potter

*Blurring House Lines and Nil Desperandum, by Lily Winterwood, a crossover with Axis Powers Hetalia
